Sex Offender Check

Overview

The Sex Offender Check API allows you to search an individual's Personally Identifiable Information (PII) against over 4,000 registered national sex offender registry databases. The API identifies whether the individual appears in any records related to sex-related offenses as defined by the National Institute of Justice:

"Sex-related offenses are any crimes that have a sexual component. They may involve actual or threatened physical harm (e.g., sexual assault) or mental or emotional harm to a victim."

Behavior

The API response will return one of the following statuses:

Clear: The individual was not found in any of the searched sex offender registry databases.
Record: The individual was found in the registry databases. The response will include details of the matching records, including any available data.

Event Trigger

On search completion, a webhook notification will be delivered asynchronously triggered by the SEX_OFFENDER_CHECK_STATUS_UPDATE event.

Retrieving Results

Upon receiving of the SEX_OFFENDER_CHECK_STATUS_UPDATE webhook event, the results can be retrieved using Sex Offender Report API endpoint.

Turnaround Time (TAT)

The average turnaround time for this check is 2 hours.

Important Notes

The search can only be placed on the user's identity has been verified.

Providing the Social Security Number (SSN) is optional for this search. However, including the full SSN can help yield results more quickly.

Results must not be used, in whole or in part, as a factor in determining eligibility for credit, insurance, employment, or any other permissible purpose under the FCRA.
